Monday, May 23 I traveled to Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, visited some hard-hit areas, met with music educators and began the IOC Individual Assistance Program. This program will work to replace instruments lost to individuals in recent storms. These pictures don’t begin to capture the magnitude of loss.
Even though much progress has been made in the clean-up much devastation is still in evidence. In many areas the destruction stretches from one horizon to the next.
This mile-wide storm was on the ground for 100 miles. The loss of life, homes and possessions was staggering. Recovery will be long in coming.
Working with music educators and school officials IOC hopes to bring music back into the lives of families affected by the storms.
